The Drudge Report

Hi there! Resident drudge, reporting for duty…not! Time to take a break and let you have a peek at today’s effort. The children were incredible. They started out wishing that we were doing anything but spring cleaning. A few minutes later, everyone was working harmoniously in the same room! The key? Prayer before hand. A [...]

Over the past few weeks, several dear blogging friends have contacted me and expressed concerns over troubling Sitemeter and Statcounter stats. Some of these stats revealed “visitors” who had used pornographic search terms and managed to link to a Catholic mom’s blog. These so-called “visitors” are auto-bots or spammers, not actual people. Nonetheless, it is [...]

Palm Sunday

Why is this day called Palm Sunday? In memory of our Saviour’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, when the multitude strewed palm branches before Him, for which reason the Church, on this day, blesses palms, and carries them in procession. Why are palms blessed? That those who carry them with devotion, or keep them in their [...]

Well!! If this isn’t the best reason to start spring cleaning a bit early, then I don’t know what is… From the Handbook of Christian Feasts and Customs by Francis X. Weiser, S.J. (1958) EASTER CLEANING — According to an ancient tradition, the three days after Palm Sunday are devoted in many countries to a [...]

It’s hard to believe that the season of Lent is coming to an end. Holy Week is nearly upon us, and with great anticipation we await the Resurrection of our Lord! Our prayer board is nearly full. What a lovely devotion this is, the evenings spent gathered together in candlelight, praying for our nearest and [...]

Oh! What a difference a day makes! The sun is shining. The steady drip, drip, drip of melting snow is music to my ears. The birds are out in great profusion and the trees and ground show the promise of new life and the imminent arrival of spring. Even the children agree…we’ve had fun with [...]

…and I say, it’s alright! The winds have diminished somewhat, and the snow is no longer falling. The driveway is blanketed under a couple feet of snow and the road in front of the house is…missing. The only vehicle I’ve seen today was a snowmobile! The children suited up and went outside for about thirty [...]

So…we have a blizzard. I can’t think of a better excuse to sit on the couch under a comfy blanket and knit up a few Easter projects. These cuddly little guys are super-easy to make. Simply knit a six inch square. A few strategic stitches, here and there and voila! A sweet little rabbit: You [...]

This is what a blizzard looks like. A picture is worth a thousand words: Winds are gusting at 40 mph. Clementine spent last night in town with a friend, but wants to come home. Last night, my dear husband could barely enter the driveway with the plow. He left very early this morning and conditions [...]

Knee deep in snow. The winter storm warning has been cancelled…looks like we’re in for a blizzard, instead! The last experience I had with a blizzard was in Huntsville, Alabama at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in 1993. Trapped for three days at the Space Center with 125 very scared 4th and 5th graders. After our nightly rosary: You didn’t know that I was watching, my dear little boy. I was. I saw what you did. I watched, misty eyed, as you so lovingly gathered the family rosaries. I watched as you kissed mine and placed it upon the statue of Our Lady. I saw how you struggled, on [...]

Nine year old Galahad would like everyone to know that Arthur is not the only brother cooking around here. Behold, his specialty: eggs in a frame with miniature egg/ham/cheese sandwich on the side. Lovingly prepared for his little sister, Emily.
I am a traditional Catholic homeschooling mother of 9 children, married for 30 years to the most patient and sainted man. As converts to Catholicism in 1991, our family has only recently discovered the beauty and full expression of our beliefs in the timeless liturgy of antiquity, the Extraordinary Form also commonly referred to as the Traditional Latin Mass. An avid knitter, I also enjoy gardening, reading and immersing myself in the everyday graces of my vocation.
