Danielle Bean has written an extremely lovely and charitable reflection on what it means to be pro-life and pro-family. After reading it, I began to think of some of the more humorous questions that I’ve been asked when out with the children. The first question is the most frequently asked. If you have a large [...]

Learning to speak childrenese…

For the past 27 years I’ve been learning to speak childrenese and I’ve had nine experts to teach me! I think it’s time to pull out this family’s version of the Official Not-Quite-Comprehensive Dictionary Of Childrenese. This is a small cross-sampling of the words that have worked their way into our day-to-day speech: antelope – [...]

Theology and a cup of coffee…what a delightful way to spend the morning! The visit with Fr. Z of What Does The Prayer Really Say? was interesting as well as informative. Charming and forthright, Father was incredibly generous with his time, despite his increasingly busy schedule. The conversation was lively and humorous, revealing the graciousness [...]

The poverty of inconvenience

“Mom…are we poor?” This surprising question was posed by one of my sons, several months ago. It was not precipitated by a sudden financial catastrophe. We hadn’t lost our home, there was food in the fridge and payday was just around the corner. “Why do you ask son? Are you worried about something?” One never [...]

My eldest son has been invited to serve and assist Bishop Bruskewitz at a Pontifical High Mass to be held next week on the Feast of the Transfiguration in Valpraiso, Nebraska at the Carmel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Arthur will assist as Candle Bearer for the Bishop and is quite awed by the invitation. [...]

Why I love homeschooling – Reason #9387 Our very large, zero-turn mower was stuck in a ditch. I was not exactly pleased that young Arthur had decided to mow the ditch beside the road, but appreciated his desire to lighten the burden for his dad, who’s been getting home a bit later in the evenings. [...]

Thank you all for your heartfelt prayers and words of wisdom as regards recent events. The past several weeks have been a trial, and like most trials there have been many blessings. The worst part of this past ordeal is that I’m still carrying it with me. The images, the thoughts, the fear are still [...]
I am a traditional Catholic homeschooling mother of 9 children, married for 30 years to the most patient and sainted man. As converts to Catholicism in 1991, our family has only recently discovered the beauty and full expression of our beliefs in the timeless liturgy of antiquity, the Extraordinary Form also commonly referred to as the Traditional Latin Mass. An avid knitter, I also enjoy gardening, reading and immersing myself in the everyday graces of my vocation.
