FOR TODAY – September 22, 2008
Outside my Window…blue skies, gentle breezes and fall-like temperatures. Grass that needs mowing, tree branches that need clearing away and a garden that needs to be “turned.”
I am thinking…that there’s so much to be done today. A week away from home has it’s price…
I am thankful for…the refuge of my mother-in-law’s home after the storm. For time to read, knit and play with the children. For the stroll down memory lane. For the workers who repaired the roof, gutter and flashing. For the guys who cleared away the largest part of the fallen tree…
From the kitchen…a nearly completely empty refrigerator. A freezer that needs to be emptied. Nothing much that is salvageable…
From the learning room…I’m painting a few of these at a time. Thank you, Jessica, for the inspiration! I was going to attempt to create little felt clothing for our “Alphabet of Saints” figures, but really like the simplicity of the painted ones…
I am creating…a pair of alpaca leg-warmers and painting a gazillion little wooden dolls…
I am going…to be working hard all day…
I am wearing…a brown micro-suede skirt, brown clogs, rusty-red t-shirt, cream cardigan, hair down.
I am reading…Oh, my goodness!! I’ve been reading so much this week, but have fallen in love with A Haystack Full of Needles by Alice Gunther. Tears, smiles and good deal of hope thanks to this precious book…
I am hoping…to pray more, worry less and laugh out loud a whole lot more…
I am hearing…silence. The occasional footstep upon the stairs. The children are surprisingly subdued…
Around the house…bags to unpack, laundry to wash…work, work, work…
One of my favorite things…running water. I don’t mind living without electricity. Living without running water, no flushing toilets…ugghhhh!
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week…prepare for our first day of school. Next Monday, on Michaelmas! We will most surely celebrate!!
Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you…
knitting + reading = a very good morning

I so enjoyed your daybook! You are in my prayers today as you settle back in after the storm
Kimberly,
Hugs to you!!!!!
I am so sorry I didn’t know you were affected by the storm. We mothers get busy, as you know full well being one yourself, but I do apologize for not visiting often. I could have prayed…, etc. I am so glad you now have electricity. I pray God will fill your fridge with all sorts of delightful food!
God bless you abudantly!
Love to you,
Easter
I can’t possibly thank you enough for the incredibly kind words about “Haystack.” You are great. (Love the picture of the book and the knitting also!)
{{{{hugs}}}}
I missed it! But loved your entry, as always.
Kimberly, you’ve won an award. Come over to my blog to collect!
I’m reading Haystack too, and enjoying it so. What a model of true charity and social grace!
Enjoying your blog, Kimberly . . . I’ve been stopping in since we met at a Ladies’ Night Out a few months ago. You have my admiration, my delight, and of course my prayers.
I am so behind in (everything!) reading blogs lately! I even missed posting my own daybook this week, for the first time in months. oh well… I am praying that my life slows down once my hubby returns at the beginning of next month! …sigh…
I too really prefer the simplicity of the painted saints. They are so basic, yet so cute at the same time! Thanks for sharing my post!
I am also looking forward to reading Haystack. It sounds wonderful, and very much like something I need to read. Badly!
Also, my refrigerator and freezer are nearly empty as well, and I don’t have the excuse you have.. It has been about 3 weeks since I’ve grocery shopped (other than a few gallons of milk I picked up) and I am wondering if I can hold out until after the 1st. I usually don’t mind shopping with my children, but since my hubby has been gone, they are extremely emotional and cranky — and so am I! I just don’t have the energy to do it… It is forcing me to be creative and use up lots of old food!!
Anyhow, you and your family are still in my prayers. I hope you are settled in soon, and that you have a great start to your school year next week. God bless!
So many kind comments!! A great big thank you to all who have offered prayers as we recover from last weeks storm…
And a great big “hello” to Alice! You’ve been on my mind and in my prayers this week…your book is a God-send! I’ve already passed it on to my dearest friend, though I’m sure she’s going to want a copy for herself as I can’t be without mine for long:) I have so many plans and ideas I hope to implement thanks to you! I’ve been homeschooling for many, many years and yes, you can teach an old homeschooler new tricks!
Another big “hello” to Amy! Congrats on the new little angel…I look forward to seeing you again in the future and hope your days are filled with peace and joy as you settle in with your new addition.
Jessica: you will love Haystack. I can’t say enough about it…having started your own Little Flowers group you will find the advice and insight invaluable. A truly precious book…
Prayers and blessings,
Kimberly
