Black hole…

So…by now you’ve all heard about the Large Hadron Collider and the “end of the world as we know it…” I’m not afraid. I spent several hours this afternoon in “close proximity” (I’m leaving it!) to a “black hole…” The boys’ bedroom. I cleaned it.  They helped.   I’m quite sure that all the matter [...]

Alter Christus

**expanding a bit on the previous post…** Alter Christus…another Christ. As we observe the actions of our priests during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, our eyes see the majesty of the vestments, the beauty of form and movement as the rubrics are executed, with reverence and precision.  The reality:  we see our priest, but [...]

In persona Christi

While attending Mass this morning, one of my little girls handed me a prayer card containing a Prayer for Priests: O Jesus, Eternal High Priest, live in (name of priest), act in him, speak in and through him. Think Your thoughts in his mind, love through his heart. Give him Your own dispositions and feelings. [...]

A few new friends

Behind the silos are many milkweed plants.  Where there’s milkweed, there are caterpillars.  Not just any caterpillars, mind you, but the progeny of the exquisitely beautiful Monarch butterfly.  Last year we were fortunate to witness the metamorphoses of six caterpillars.  Today, the children caught six more, as well as a few Tussock moth caterpillars. Coming [...]

The last bouquet…

The sunflowers are fading fast…soon we’ll collect seeds for next year’s Grotto. This morning, the little girls picked the last few flowers.  How cheerful those sunny sunflower faces are…resting in a vase next to the kitchen sink.  A last reminder of a swiftly passing summer.

Forget the tears!!

Okay…I’m sold!  Move over Mr. Coffee and make way for Bialetti.  I feared the brew would be bitter, but no!  It is delightful; rich and full bodied.  No wonder there’s a Bialetti in nearly every home in Italy… A dollar well spent.  Time for another cup!

Identity: lost and found

At the age of eighteen, like many young people, I registered to vote.  A small card filled out, an “X” to designate my chosen party (Republican) and, presto!  a nifty new card identifying me as a registered voter.  That small card represented a milestone in my life; a step towards adulthood and civic responsibility. And [...]

Dry spell…

I’m experiencing a bit of a dry spell…for once, words are hard to come by.  I’m fighting a pretty nasty summer cold, haven’t managed to start school yet and feel as though I’m falling behind in nearly everything… Nonetheless, I’m thankful for much.  Here’s tonight’s list: *a family dinner with six very dirty faces wearing [...]

Well said, Elizabeth!

A big thank you to Elizabeth Foss for saying what needs to be said…and doing so with such charity, such clarity, such conviction.  May God grant that we all become “women of conviction, not opinion.” Read it for yourself: Eating Our Own
