His gift…

His big, blue eyes filled with tears. All day, he’d watched her. She was so beautiful, so serene; her smile radiated warmth, love and joy. Now she was in someone else’s arms. Earlier in the afternoon he’d approached her, shyly, and then boldly asked: “Mom…can I have her?” “She” was a statue, a lovely statue [...]

It brings a mother great joy when her children truly enjoy one another’s company. Max, age 11, and Abi, age 10, have long been good buddies…the two closest together in the family, yet most opposite in personality. Abi is flamboyant and vivacious. Max, reserved and a bit shy. The only thing they share are their [...]
All Hallow’s Eve…why we celebrate
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged all hallow's eve, catholicism on October 31, 2011 | 3 Comments »
This is an updated repost from 2007…as we prepare for a fun-filled evening of begging candy from friends and neighbors, I thought I’d yet again reiterate my very strong feelings as to why Catholics should reclaim the holiday from it’s current paganization: October 31st marks All Hallow’s Eve. For most of us, we fondly remember [...]

I’ve missed you, my friends! Life has been so incredibly full, so incredibly busy, so incredibly joy-filled…I have much to share! At present, on this windy-yet-wonderful October day, I’ll have to settle with sharing one of my favorite poems. With bits of snow flying, dusting my front porch pumpkins and fodder, it seemed so very [...]

…this past Sunday to be precise, we took a jaunt to a local orchard and pumpkin patch. It was a spontaneous trip…we’d all planned a Sabbath “rest” (read that as “nap!”) but the blue sky and crisp breeze beckoned us outdoors…to harvest a day of joy and pure picking pleasure: First, the apples…a bushel and [...]

The following event took place at least ten years ago…just one of those days I want to remember and the topic of choice for a writing assignment I was given this week: Impatient. Standing in a check-out line with four young children in tow was certainly not my idea of the perfect end to an [...]
September’s fleeting…

Where, oh where, has September gone? In a mad swirl of falling leaves and temperatures, it seems the days have been born aloft upon the wind, tumbling quickly out of sight. Yesterday, we journeyed to the creek, to taste the last bit of Indian Summer and sample Fall in her burgeoning glory…and glorious it was! [...]

Sunflowers against a bright blue sky… Strutting roosters and cackling hens… Children playing, learning…nature the best teacher… Building…through blood and sweat…and a mother’s tears (after a visit to the ER where we learned that the thumb wasn’t broken…) Rocking away the afternoon…a knitter’s paradise…a real joy after six months of hand pain… Amongst the curious [...]

Last year was pretty tough… 6 surgeries, months of disability and physical therapy really stretched this family’s physical, spiritual and financial resources. When mom needs maintenance, the whole family suffers…yet, the suffering was such that it truly “grew” everyone. Older children learned to manage home and hearth; younger children learned patience and compassion. And mom? [...]

A sling chair, a steno book and a waterfall…and the sixteen year old poet in me awakens. The site itself is inspiring. So much so, that a local reporter for the Columbus Dispatch decided to take a few photos after observing the antics of three water sprites: Waterfall Sun dappled pebbles grace its glinting shore, [...]

Feet dangling in icy cool water, pencil perched on paper…I watched you. I wanted to sketch the moment, to capture your grin…those dimples…the twinkling blue eyes and exuberance of youth. But I’m no artist. Words, as always, will be my sketch…a means to hold the moment: Eleven When every rock is hailed a precious find… [...]

Who knew? Not I… Nestled in the crooked arms of a stream swiftly flowing to the Scioto, tumbling over a rocky cliff and spilling with loud voice and great spray; just a few bare miles past soy and corn spread across the flatlands like a great green blanket…a waterfall. A magically misty majestic waterfall… It [...]

It was their special day… And a special day should always be marked in a special way: When nearly 80 Catholic men, women and children show up for home-styled BBQ and picnic…expect a lot of good, ol’ fashioned summer fun! The party began at 3:00 p.m. and continued until 1:00 a.m… Lots of conversation… Lots [...]
Together…a First Holy Communion Pictorial

They’ve known each other since they were babies…our families are tied together by faith and love. Both shy and retiring, often fading into the background, overshadowed by older and bolder siblings. But… Together they knew no bounds! We often marveled at the incredible amount of mischief these two would get into…but only when together. We [...]

One Sunday, after Mass…we made an interesting discovery while taking a short-cut home: The Shrum Indian Mound… In the middle of the suburbs… A beautiful little slice of history… We would have never known about it if we hadn’t taken the shortcut! Beauty close to home…history, too! Blessings,
I am a traditional Catholic homeschooling mother of 9 children, married for 30 years to the most patient and sainted man. As converts to Catholicism in 1991, our family has only recently discovered the beauty and full expression of our beliefs in the timeless liturgy of antiquity, the Extraordinary Form also commonly referred to as the Traditional Latin Mass. An avid knitter, I also enjoy gardening, reading and immersing myself in the everyday graces of my vocation.
