God’s grace is thick upon you, my friend! You know, I really want a statue of Mary for outside but not sure yet how I’ll swing this with a non-Catholic hubby. But what struck me about this story is how a statue re-focused your heart and mind. Many non-Catholics don’t understand Catholic statues and statuettes. They think we’re engaged in worshipping idols. But it’s not like that at all. Instead, these statues help redirect our thoughts so that we remember what is truly important.

You remembered that day and I am so thankful you did and you preserved the moment for us all. I went to early Mass this morning, but wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day! God bless you and your family!

We wondered how we’d ever find anyone who would be willing to journey out of the city to take care of the barn cats and the chickens. Our good God attended to it all…the husband of one of my dearest friends (who also traveled to Myrtle Beach) was unable to make the trip and offered to come out and care for the animals. He enjoyed the bucolic environment and we were blessed knowing that the animals were cared for. I had long ago given up on the thought of a real vacation…this all fell into place with such ease, it seems nearly miraculous. Now we’re home and ready to get back to our daily life…but with a renewed sense of purpose that was seriously lacking before. I am a bit envious–with a house being built, orthodontia needed and other things, a holiday on the coast seems out of the question (plus–who’d milk the cow?), but maybe, just maybe we will swing it before our oldest leaves home in
4 or 5 years. It looks wonderful, and my kids have never seen the ocean (I spent the first 8 years of my life in NY, so I went to the beach frequently).
